Second Tuesday Poetry Series: Connie Post & Michael Meyerhofer

Connie Post is an award-winning poet and the author of over ten collections of poetry. She served as the first Poet Laureate of Livermore, California from 2005 – June 2009. During her term, she created two popular reading series– “Wine and Words” and “Ravenswood.” In 2012, her chapbook And When the Sun Drops won the 2012 Aurorean Editor’s Choice Awards. Her first full length collection Flood Water was released by Glass Lyre Press in 2014 and won the Lyrebird Award. Connie’s most recent collection Prime Meridian was released in January 2020 (Glass Lyre Press)


Michael Meyerhofer’s fifth poetry
book, Ragged Eden, was published by Glass Lyre Press. He has been the startled recipient of fourteen national writing awards including the James Wright Poetry Award, the Liam Rector First Book Award, the Brick Road Poetry Book Prize, and several chapbook prizes. His work has appeared in Hayden’s Ferry, Rattle, Brevity, Ploughshares, Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine, and other journals. Dreaming America: A Reading for Immigrants in Detention Centers

About this Event:
Hosted by Lake County Poet Laureate Georgina Marie and Lake County Community Advocate Gillian Parrillo.
This event is to raise awareness of adult and youth immigrants in detention centers in the United States. Readings will include excerpts from the book Dreaming America: Voices of Undocumented Youth in Maximum-security Detention, original work from featured poets, and stories from local immigrants.
We’re excited to be joined by the editor of Dreaming America himself, Seth Michelson, as well as poets and readers Alethea Eason, Angela Trudell Vasquez, Elise Stuart, Erin Rodoni, Eve West Bessier, Martina Gallegos, Pamela Williams, Saro Deacon, and more to come.

This monthly poetry series takes place at Venus restaurant at 1889 Solano Ave. in Berkeley. All are welcome and admission is free. Buy your own drinks during the reading and dinner afterward. Barb always stays for dinner and you are welcome to join her community table, or dine with your friends. The poets’ books are for sale during readings and they are available to sign them for you.
